Aircraft Flight Control Systems
Aircraft manufacturers are consolidating their supplier base and outsourcing larger and more complex systems than ever before. By divorcing themselves from subsystem design and supplier management, these manufacturers can manage new developments with a smaller staff, reduce the overall platform development time and leverage the expertise of specialists to obtain better system solutions.
The catch? Finding suppliers with the breadth of experience and expertise required to successfully manage such vast subsystem development projects.
Moog is the world leader in flight control actuation and critical control products. We support virtually every commercial airline in the world, all U.S. government agencies and global military customers. Our systems design and integration expertise—matched with proven subsystem expertise—means we can achieve higher levels of optimization in more areas.
On the Boeing 787, for example, Moog provides the design, integration and certification support for the complete Primary Flight Control Actuation System. This system controls all 21 flight surfaces and includes both electrohydraulic and electromechanical servoactuators, and all associated control electronics.
On the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, Moog's role includes managing the industry team in the development and integration of Primary Flight Control and Leading Edge Flap Actuation, integration of the complete actuation system and supplier of critical technologies and major subsystems including the wingfold actuation system.
Other aircraft that rely on Moog flight control and actuation technologies include the Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet, B-2 Spirit, V-22 Osprey, Northrop Grumman X-47B unmanned combat air system, Airbus A350 XWB and Gulfstream G280, among others.
